Choosing the Right Light Colour

The colour temperature of a bulb changes how a room looks and feels. It is measured in Kelvin (K). Lower numbers produce a warmer, more golden light, while higher numbers create a cooler, whiter light.

2200K – Extra Warm White

Extra warm white creates a soft, golden glow similar to candlelight. It works particularly well with decorative filament bulbs and creates a cosy, relaxing atmosphere.

Best for: Bedrooms, living rooms, restaurants and decorative lighting.

2700K – Warm White

Warm white is the most popular choice for homes. It produces a comfortable, welcoming light without appearing overly yellow.

Best for: Living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms, hallways and table lamps.

3000K – Soft White

Soft white is slightly cleaner and brighter than 2700K while still retaining some warmth. It is an excellent all-round choice for modern homes.

Best for: Kitchens, bathrooms, hallways, home offices and contemporary living spaces.

4000K – Cool White

Cool white produces a crisp, clean light that helps improve visibility. It works particularly well in practical spaces where clear task lighting is important.

Best for: Kitchens, utility rooms, bathrooms, garages, offices and work areas.

6000K – Daylight

Daylight bulbs create a bright, blue-white light similar to natural daylight. They are generally better suited to functional or commercial spaces than relaxing rooms.

Best for: Garages, workshops, display areas and detailed task lighting.

Which Colour Temperature Should I Choose?

For most homes, we recommend:

• 2700K for a warm and cosy atmosphere.

• 3000K for a slightly cleaner, modern appearance.

• 4000K for bright, practical task lighting.

Try to use the same colour temperature throughout connected or open-plan areas. Mixing warm and cool bulbs in the same space can make the lighting look uneven.

Please remember that colour temperature describes the colour of the light, not its brightness. Check the bulb’s lumen output when comparing brightness.
